French sizes 36 - 37 - 38 - 39 - 40 - 41 - 42 - 43 - 44 correspond to the neck circumference of the shirt in centimetres measured from the button to the end of the buttonhole.
English sizes 14 - 14.5 - 15 - 15.5 - 16 - 16.5 - 17 - 17.5 correspond to the neck circumference of the shirt in Inches measured from the button to the end of the buttonhole.
American sizes XS - S - M - L - XL correspond to the average population of the country, so that M fits the majority of the population.
