The tie, an accessory that makes a difference

18 min de lecture

A tie is more than just an accessory: it's a symbol of craftsmanship, status and personal expression. At Première Manche, we're committed to offering you ties that embody elegance and quality. In this article, we invite you to delve into the fascinating history of the tie, get to know our main models and discover subtle, modern combinations with our shirts.

1. A little history

Ties date back to the 17th century, when Croatian soldiers wore scarves tied around their necks. Their style won over the French and the term “cravate” was born, derived from the word “Croate”. Adopted by King Louis XIV and his court, the cravat quickly became a symbol of refinement and social status.

Over the centuries, it evolved: the wide lace scarves of the 18th century gave way to more suitable and varied pieces in the 19th century, when new knots, such as the Windsor, appeared.

In the 20th century, the tie continued to evolve and adapt to fashion trends and personal tastes. Today, it's a versatile accessory that can be used both formally and casually, allowing everyone to express their own style. At Première Manche, we honor this rich history by offering quality ties that go perfectly with any outfit.

3. Our outfit inspiration suggestions

To match your tie, we offer a few suggestions for harmonious combinations with our shirts.

First, pair our Connor white shirt with the Austen grenadine red tie. Mixing these pieces will give you an outfit suitable for business meetings or formal events.

Next, we suggest you choose one of our blue Oxford shirts with the gray Austen knit tie. For a slightly more casual look, this ensemble will suit you well for a day at the office or a business lunch.

And as a third and final option, we suggest matching your striped shirt with the Barry striped wool and cashmere tie. This mix will bring a touch of sophistication as well as originality with the crossover of the shirt and tie stripes. This outfit will be useful for special occasions or an elegant evening out.

The Best Tie

Among our collection, the Austen tie in blue silk stands out from our other ties for its versatility as well as its notable quality. It's wearable with almost all the shirts available on our website, and can easily be adapted to different occasions, from business meetings to ceremonies. So you can have fun matching it to your style of dress and the outfits you like.

4. Wearing a Tie in 2024

Gone are the days when the tie was synonymous with rigor and part of an almost cartoonish uniform. Today, it has become a genuine fashion accessory, a style statement rather than a status symbol. Gone is the rigidity of the “suit and tie”, replaced by inventiveness and creative freedom. By playing with shapes, materials, colors and patterns, we can express all kinds of styles, to the delight of our wardrobe.

While the tie-suit combination remains unchallenged, it's now perfectly possible to wear a tie with more casual outfits, or even completely Casual. Far from being limited to shirts, ties can also be worn with leather perfectos, work jackets or blousons, opening the door to a multitude of styles.

Our advice? Have fun with it. The tie has been dusted off and freed from its strict, formal image. Today, it's a playful accessory, to be worn everywhere and without moderation. Try bold combinations and express your personality through this versatile accessory.

A note on care

Because of the delicacy of their manufacture and the precious materials used, ties are best cleaned by a dry cleaner. Periodic dry-cleaning keeps them in good condition and prolongs their life. Avoid putting them in the washing machine, as this could cause irreversible damage.
